Recent research[1] has revealed that workers in the UK’s transportation and logistics (T&L) sector lose an average of 11 hours of productivity each month due to device-related issues, contributing to heightened workplace stress. The findings, from a global study by SOTI, highlight significant challenges in managing and securing the tools essential to daily operations.

On the back of those findings, Pallet Truck Shop, the UK’s largest supplier of pallet and sack trucks, is calling attention to the pivotal role that high-quality materials handling equipment can play in mitigating these issues. By investing in reliable, efficient gear, warehouses and logistics businesses can ease the pressure on workers, reduce downtime, and create a safer, more productive environment.

Phil Chesworth, Managing Director of Pallet Truck Shop, commented, “The findings make one thing clear: workplace stress is on the rise, and productivity going down is not unrelated. For warehouses and logistics companies, using reliable, user-friendly equipment is essential to addressing this issue. Tools that allow employees to work more safely and efficiently help to alleviate stress and boost performance, enabling smoother operations across the board.”

While digitalisation has brought great advancements to the sector, it also introduces new challenges. SOTI’s study highlights that UK T&L workers experience more technology-related stress than their global counterparts (54% vs 48%), with concerns about device security and shared equipment on the rise. Over a third of workers in the UK cite the inability to quickly resolve downtime issues as a major disruption to business continuity.

“Digitalisation is transforming the logistics industry,” Chesworth continued, “but it must go hand in hand with proper training and a focus on reliable, well-maintained equipment. Without these, inefficiencies and security concerns will continue to grow, further adding to the stress already felt by workers.”

For over three decades, Pallet Truck Shop has provided businesses with dependable materials handling solutions, with equipment including a wide range of warehouse essentials – from electric pallet trucks to weighing scale trucks and manual stackers.

Chesworth added, “Ensuring workers are equipped with the tools and knowledge they need is not just good business practice – it’s an investment in a healthier, more resilient workforce.”
